Walls

Sooo I've been thinking about friends a lot lately and about the role that they take in your life. This is something I read somewhere and thought it was pretty interesting. So if you're bored enough, I'd read it:

True friendship. Many people wander through their lives believing that they have found their true friends. But it's impossible to believe that some of these people aren't lying to themselves. Everyone has friends, sure, but how many of them are TRUE friends? What does it even mean to be a true friend? I suppose no one can know for sure, but I can say what I believe is the definition. A true friend is someone who is constantly in your trust. They aren't someone who disappears for a few months, and then suddenly one day you resume talking and set up a time to meet. You might spend the next two weeks or so talking and sharing your recent experiences, but eventually they fade again for a few more months. That is not a true friend. A friend definitely, but not a true one. You could say that a true friend is someone who knows all your deepest secrets, all the skeletons you have locked away in your closet. I don't think this makes them a true friend either. There's so much more to a relationship than simply knowing about the person. Long talks and hours spent crying together helps build the relationship no doubt, but the silence between you is what defines it. When you're with someone, LISTEN to the silence. It holds the answer. Silence can take several different forms. The most common kind would be the silence that basically becomes a physical object. It becomes the eyes of the stranger in the car next to you at a red light, staring at you without blinking. It becomes a single phrase, "Why.is.no.one.talking." repeated over and over in your brain. It becomes the one word that no one wants in any friendly situation, awkward. No, the silence you find with a true friend holds none of those elements. The true silence is filled with your own thoughts, whether you conjure those thoughts consciously or subconsciously. A true friend is someone who you bond with whether you're talking or not. It's just the fact that you're near to them. Whether that means sitting near them or just being on the phone with them. It's the simple fact of knowing the other person is there; that is the silence that speaks true friendship. A true friend knows your thoughts before you speak them. Not finishing your sentences, but knowing what you think before you're able to even form the thought. However, the funny thing about finding out which friends are true, is that you can never really know until you feel that you've lost them, or are losing them. The people who you know you would die for, not just as a saying, but if you were honestly faced with that choice. When that time comes that you find yourself despairing over the sudden change in the relationship, is the time when you know your feelings are real. A true friend is more than a movie buddy, a walk with me to class buddy, or a person who comes over to your house and eats all your food. No, a true friend is someone who knows your past, your present, and your future. They're a person who never judges you for your ideas, for your heart, or your head. They will never fade away, and they will forever leave their impression on you. You can laugh together, you can cry together, and you can share silence together. But most importantly, you are together. Physically, mentally, and emotionally. You are together.

Since I've been away at school I've had the opportunity to meet all kinds of people. But finding out which people are really really there for you, those are the people that will keep fighting to get into your head, even when you try to push them away.We might never know why we meet the people we do, but they are there for a reason, whether you know what that reason is or not. Sometimes you do things just because they feel like the right thing, right? Anyway, I just thought I'd share that paragraph above. And in homage to two of my best friends, I can't help but post these few videos. We've come a long way.
